History, sex and birds among the most wanted in Wikipedia

Articles about the world wars, sex and birds are among the most searched on the Internet by users of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, said one of its founders, Jimmy Wales, visiting Chile.

"Those with the most traffic (are) things that have to do with World War II. People are very interested in that part of history. Articles about sex are always interesting and many people seek, and things related to culture popular, "Wales told Radio Cooperativa.

"It's hard to say because there are topics with many articles like birds. A particular type of bird is not much traffic, but on the whole, yes" he said.

Wales, who attended a conference in Santiago, considered that the actions of "hooligans" who try to adulterate the content on Wikipedia to the detriment of any event, institution or person is a problem. But is controlled, he said.

"Spend regularly, but the percentage of the total is really small. The Vandals are not many, the percentage who do that on Wikipedia is low. It is a problem but we have systems to manage, we have minimized" he said.

Considered the most popular reference book on the Internet, Wikipedia has more than 13 million online articles that can be edited by users, with versions in 75 languages. It was created in 2001 by Americans Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger.
