Google Inc. on Tuesday launched an information service in Arabic on the Internet that allows users to answer questions between them.
The new service went into effect two weeks after Yahoo Inc. acquired one of the largest Internet portals in the Arab world. Like Google, Yahoo wants to serve the growing Arab population of young users.
Google decided to launch its service Ejabat "answers" in Arabic after discovering that many of their users' queries were not Arabs relevant results. The company, based in the town of Mountain View, California, estimated that at least 1% of circulating information on the website in Arabic.
"We recognize that users are better at answering the questions of everyone in your community and this product is the perfect way to share and provide such information," said Wael Ghonim, Google manager for the Middle East and North Africa,
Google already provides search pages in Arabic and its Blogger publishing platform is popular with writers who use the web.
The company does not offer a service in English Ejabat, but threw the like in Russian, Chinese and Thai, said her spokeswoman based in Dubai, Joanne Kubba.
