The video game maker Square Enix Holdings announced the launch of the latest edition of its series "Final Fantasy" on December 17 in Japan, which could help sales of the PlayStation 3 from Sony in a key shopping season.
The series "Final Fantasy" has sold over 85 million units worldwide since it launched its first edition in 1987, becoming one of the best-selling video game in history.
Square Enix is developing Final Fantasy XIII "exclusive to PlayStation 3 (PS3) for the Japanese market, while in North America and Europe the game will be available for PS3 and Xbox 360 from Microsoft.
The software maker plans to launch the new version in North America and Europe in 2010.
