Sony Ericsson announces its first smartphone with Android

Sony Ericsson announced on Tuesday its mobile X10, the first Android operating system from Google, but expects to put on sale next year.

Android has gained much strength this year, as phone vendors looking for ways to beat the Apple iPhone.

This loss-making company, which is the fourth largest handset maker in the world, has been affected since 2008 by a lack of attractive models offer high-end, and in the last quarter global sales plunged 45 percent.

The X10 will have a touch screen four inches wide, use the Snapdragon processor, Qualcomm, and comes a 8.1 megapixel camera.

Its most important current model, sati, with a 12 megapixel camera, just going on sale, and the announcement could hurt its sales in the key selling season after the new year.

"I think some consumers wait until the first quarter (of 2010) to take the X10, instead of getting a Christmas Sati," said Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi.

"It was hard, try not to negatively impact on products like Satie (...) while announcing something that will persuade customers not to go to another brand," he said.
