Tetris for mobile downloads exceed one hundred million

The classic video game Tetris, which represents a sort of puzzle in motion, took new life by becoming the most downloaded from mobile phones.

The creator of Tetris, Alexey Pajitnov, and the firm has the rights to the game, Blue Planet Software, announced at a press conference Thursday that has been downloaded over 100 million copies of this popular entertainment.

"As mobile devices come into the hands of more people, so is Tetris," said chief executive of Blue Planet, Henk Rogers.

It was spring in the former Soviet Union, when a mathematical puzzle aficionado Moscow created a video game called "Tetris" for over 25 years.

Pajitnov made a computer program called Tetris, the player must manipulate blocks of various shapes that fall along the screen, with the aim of making them fit in rows without gaps.

The game became a success and this has continued since then, reaching 10% market share, according to Rogers.

"Tetris is so popular because it transcends cultures," said Rogers. "No violence, no ideology, the player creates order out of chaos."

Tetris was first made available for mobile phones in 2001.
