BlackBerry loses round in India and Reaches Agreement in Saudi Arabia

India could temporarily paralyze BlackBerry service if security problems are not addressed at a meeting on Thursday. One sign that the battle of the Canadian firm with governments around the world is far from reaching its end.
The latest ultimatum to Research In Motion, the maker of BlackBerry, comes a day after the firm agreed to deliver the user codes that would allow the Saudi authorities to monitor the messages, at times when they sought to silence his service.
Within a few weeks, encryption of mail service and BlackBerry messages, widely beloved by politicians and CEOs in the world, including U.S. President Barack Obama has been the target of several governments.
India, like many other countries in the Middle East and North Africa, wants access to encrypted communications Blackberry, which are linked to militant activity, including attacks on Mumbai in 2008 that killed 166 people.
The Government would meet with the telecommunications operators on Thursday, Reuters said on Wednesday the head of internal security of India UK Bansal, but it is unclear whether RIM would take part in the meeting. RIM declined comment.
Minister (the inside) of India will press on Thursday to set a deadline for RIM share the details of coding.

"I could have definitely some discussions about the term, a proposal to adopt a tough action on BlackBerry services during the meeting," said government official, who declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media .
BlackBerry in India and Saudi Arabia

Another senior Indian government official told Reuters that they could apply to mobile phone operators to shut down their e-mail services and messaging RIM temporarily as a last resort, not to get RIM to provide data access."If they can not provide a solution, we will ask operators (mobile) to stop that particular service. The service will be resumed when we provide a solution," the source said.
The responsibility for compliance with security requirements of India lies on the mobile operators in India rather than fall on RIM.Much of the success of BlackBerry in recent years has been their safety net, enabling executives to communicate securely, but one of its main sales became a problem.
The German government has banned its public officials and politicians to use the BlackBerry and the European Union Commission last month rejected the BlackBerry for Apple iPhone and HTC smartphones.
RIM, unlike its rival Nokia and Apple, operates its own network through a secure service located in Canada and other countries like Britain.
RIM said the BlackBerry security based on a system where customers create their own key and the company does not have the master key or a "backdoor" that allows him or any third person to gain access to corporate data crucial.
