The last fundraiser of the Wikipedia has been more than fine. Weeks of ads on every page of Babylon have borne fruit: the Wikimedia Foundation has raised in 50 days, a record 16 million dollars. More than 500,000 people from 140 countries have donated an average of $ 22 for the encyclopedia and other projects of the organization.
Thus, the collection has become faster and more successful the site founded by Jimmy Wales that next January 15 will be 10 years and is the only nonprofit among the 10 most visited in the world. Wales himself has posted a message of thanks in which he explains that Wikipedia has already "19 million encyclopedia entries in 270 languages" and that although the donation he found it "incredible" is not "surprised." "In 2001, I bet by the people, and never failed me," he says, about this "amazing story" that is his project.
A campaign, like Wikipedia itself, through contributions made free. More than 1,000 community members actively participating in the encyclopedia have put their bit to create, organize, campaign, or translate some 80 languages. And many others have donated. Something that certainly can be done at any time.

Donation to Wikipedia

The open, collaborative project of Jimmy Wales is already far more than a success. It has become an essential reference beyond the debates about their reliability anteriiores years. Thanks to the generosity of Wikipedia can stay in operation for free and without advertising for its 400 million monthly users, many publishers have their part to convert the free encyclopedia on a page must.

"There's nothing like it," said Wales in his message. Is right and should be added that may never be repeated.
